Letterkundige Sophie Reinders promoveerde onlangs (cum laude) op het proefschrift *De mug en de kaars. Vriendschap en liefde in alba amicorum van adellijke vrouwen uit de Noordelijke Nederlanden 1575-1640.* [![](https://blog.leoprinting.nl/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/De-mug-en-de-kaars1-1024x874-1024x874-5.jpg?width=648&height=553&name=De-mug-en-de-kaars1-1024x874-1024x874-5.jpg)](https://blog.leoprinting.nl/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/De-mug-en-de-kaars1-1024x874-5.jpg?hsLang=nl) In de Gouden eeuw bezaten adelijke vrouwen  ‘alba amicorum’, Latijn voor ‘albums van vrienden’.  Sophie Reinders bestudeerde deze boekjes. Deze jonge adellijke vrouwen gebruikten vriendenalbums om tekeningen, persoonlijke spreuken en gedichten van vrienden en familie in te verzamelen. Daarnaast werd er in de boekjes ook commentaar gegeven op deze berichtjes. Flirten, grappen maken, alles wat nu ook op Facebook gebeurt, bestond dus ook al 450 jaar geleden! De eigenaressen van deze boekjes waren over het algemeen 20 jaar oud en stopten met schrijven toen ze gingen trouwen. Beeld: Hoge Raad van Adel ### Sociaal leven De boekjes geven een mooi inkijkje in het sociale leven van deze tijd: de Gouden Eeuw. Sophie Reinders ontdekte dat de vrouwen interessanter zijn dan over het algemeen bekend is over deze 'mannenwereld'. Ze spraken vaak meerdere talen, gingen op reis en waren belezen. En dat terwijl ze ook nog aan een groot huishouden leiding moesten geven. ### Hype Reinders onderzocht ruim 30 boekjes en kon zo de levens van deze vrouwen een beetje reconstrueren. Ook realiseert ze dat ze slechts een oppervlakkige 'opgesmukte' inkijk krijgt, nét als bij de huidige Facebookprofielen. Wat nu geldt, gold toen ook: hoe meer personen een bijdrage in je boekje schreven, des te beter! Ook voorspelt hoe het verder ging met deze vriendenboekjes ook hoe het waarschijnlijk zal gaan met de huidige sociale media...  Het was even een hype. Het laatste boekje wat Reinders onderzocht, stamt uit 1640.
