Het bedrijf is momenteel eigendom van de Italiaanse multinational Perfetti Van Melle (deze vennootschap bezit ook andere bekende merken zoals Mentos, Smint en Fruitella). Zoals wel vaker bij dit soort opvallende merken hangt aan de geschiedenis van het logo ook een mooi verhaal: Enric Bernat vertelt: "Ik zag iets lekkers wat niet handig was voor onze belangrijkste consumenten: kinderen. Hun handen werden kleverig en zij kwamen hierdoor in de problemen met hun ouders. Dus ik stak het snoep op een stok." Bernat noemde het product 'GOL' ('doelpunt' in het Spaans). In zijn verbeelding was het snoep als een voetbal en de open mond het doel. Het product verkocht in eerste instantie niet goed. Bernat huurde daarom een advertentiebureau in dat met het merk 'Chupa Chups' kwam (van het Spaanse werkwoord chupar, wat 'zuigen' betekent). Wat nog ontbrak was een goed ontwerp voor het logo. In 1969 klaagde Bernat een beetje over wat hij tot dan toe had, terwijl hij koffie dronk met zijn kunstenaarsvriend: niemand anders dan Salvador Dalí! De beroemde surrealistische schilder die bekend was om zijn opvallende snor en schilderijen met smeltende klokken, ging onmiddellijk aan het werk. Dalí integreerde het woordmerk met zwierige letters in een madeliefje. Daarnaast zit er een uiterst slim kenmerk in het ontwerp: zeer bewust van een goede presentatie, drong Dalí erop aan dat zijn ontwerp bovenop de lolly werd geplaatst in plaats van op de zijkant. Op deze wijze kon het logo altijd in zijn geheel worden gezien. Chupa Chups is nog steeds een sterk merk en verkoopt 4 miljard lolly's per jaar.
