Hierom besteed ik in mijn blog ook regelmatig aandacht aan een kunstenaar of een kunststijl. Deze blog gaat over Piet Mondriaan (Amersfoort, 7 maart 1872 – New York, 1 februari 1944). ![Mondriaan](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Mondriaan ### Genie Mondriaan was een revolutionair en een genie! Hij wordt gezien als dé pionier van de abstracte kunst. Interessant is het om te ontdekken hoe hij van een talentvol figuratief schilder groeide naar zijn latere geometrisch-abstracte werk, met de kenmerkende horizontale en verticale zwarte lijnen en primaire kleuren. Deze stijl van Mondriaan is wereldberoemd en dient als inspiratiebron voor vele architecten en ontwerpers van toegepaste kunst, waaronder dus ook grafische vormgevers. Hij was een van de belangrijkste medewerkers van het tijdschrift De Stijl. Gedurende zijn leven ontwikkelde hij een eigen kunsttheorie, die hij Nieuwe Beelding of neoplasticisme noemde. [![Mondriaan](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png)](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Vroeg werk van Mondriaan: Oostzijdse molen aan het Gein bij maanlicht, ca. 1903 ### Zijn leven in het kort Mondriaan was al op jonge leeftijd kunstzinnig bezig. Hij rondt in 1895 zijn studie aan de Rijksacademie in Amsterdam af, verblijft daarna in Domburg (provincie Zeeland) en Uden (provincie Brabant) en schildert daar voornamelijk landschappen. Op zijn 39e levensjaar maakt hij een drastische stap, sluit zijn leven in Nederland af, en verhuist naar Parijs waar hij internationaal bekende kunstenaars, schrijvers en intellectuelen ontmoet. Hij raakt zo geïnspireerd naar een nieuwe stijl en gaat meer abstracter werk maken. Vlak voor de 2e wereldoorlog, in 1938, vlucht hij naar Londen. Maar ook daar voelt hij zich niet veilig en reist uiteindelijk twee jaar later naar naar New York. Zijn beroemdste kunstwerk "Victory Boogie Woogie" is daar gemaakt. Het is eigenlijk niet af, na zijn overlijden in 1944 blijft dit werk onvoltooid op zijn schildersezel staan. ### Den Haag viert 100 jaar Mondriaan en "De Stijl" Dit jaar is het 100 jaar geleden dat de kunstbeweging "De Stijl" werd opgericht. Het Gemeentemuseum van Den Haag heeft de grootste collectie van Mondriaan en "De Stijl" ter wereld!  Leuk om te zien dat in Den Haag nu etalages van winkels zijn ingericht in "Mondriaan stijl" [![](https://blog.leoprinting.nl/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Dia1-1024x391-5.jpg?width=648&height=247&name=Dia1-1024x391-5.jpg)](https://blog.leoprinting.nl/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Dia1-5.jpg?hsLang=nl) Foto's met dank aan IJssalon Spikkels in de populaire winkelstraat Frederik Hendriklaan ('de Fred') in Den Haag/Scheveningen, vlakbij het Gemeentemuseum Wil je het werk van dit wereldberoemde genie in het écht bewonderen, dan moet je snel naar Den Haag. Het werk van Piet Mondriaan is daar altijd in het Gemeentemuseum te bewonderen, maar tot 25 september is er de expositie: "De ontdekking van Mondriaan". Een mooie kans om een deel van Mondriaan's oeuvre dat normaal in buitenlandse museums hangt hier te bewonderen.
